Today I saw an advertisement on TV where a professional athlete was making a pledge not to text and drive. Another ad showed a distraught young man who was sharing his painful experience of killing 3 young children when he ran over them while he was texting “I love you” to his girlfriend.
I do not text and drive. But, today, I am making a public pledge never to do so. I think of my precious children and grandchildren and think that they could have been the victims of this man’s distraction at the wheel of his car.
Please make the same pledge—for your own sake and for the sake of the loved ones of others who may be your victim if you should lose control of your vehicle while texting and driving. It only takes a split second of distraction to lose control. Life is so precious. Beloved ones, make this pledge. Love your life and the lives of others.
I know I can count on each of you to make and abide by the pledge you will make today.
